Content and well-fed, it quietly lay in its damp, dark lair, relaxing and doing nothing in particular.
Suddenly, sharp pain and the sensation of having its rear-end sliced off. A huge metal presence flashes past inches from its head seconds later, ripping open its home.
A sharp object is felt in the raw, open wound, and instinctively it squirms away from the source of distress, wriggling out into the newly made exit. The sharp object pushes all the way through and forces it to drop out of its home, landing on a hard surface with a splat.
It struggles valiantly for cover, but in vain. Giant appendages descend from the sky, picking it up with monstrous strength. It attempts to bite at one of the appendage, but to no avail. Lifted up, it is slowly moved to its doom...
A huge, curved, sharp rod of steel looms overhead, larger and larger as it draws closer to the poor, writhing, struggling creature. The appendages holding the creature cruelly stabs the rod straight into its struggling head, pulling the rod all the way through its squirming body. Sadly for the poor creature, death has not yet claimed it and will not do so for quite awhile.
Pierced, doomed, unable to move save squirm about slightly causing intensifying pain, the surroundings suddenly flash past in a blur as the creature is held fast to the steel rod. There is a splash and it is engulfed in murky waters, dragged down to the bottom of its watery grave. And it is here where it struggles to no avail. But the end is not yet near. Not even close.
Many long agonizing moments later, giant monsters approach warily, taking bites at it until finally its wretched existence is ended.
Such is the life of every worm raised and sold as fishing bait.
