"We are inclined to believe those whom we do not know because they have never deceived us."
Darwinism. Evolution.
All living creatures are ultimately motivated by the desire to survive and reproduce.
All internal feelings said creatures experienced are meant for bringing them closer to said goal.
For that reason, we feel pain when hurt, something which may threaten our life. We feel good when we consume food when hungry, because it sustains our life. We feel good when we reproduce, because we ensure our species does not go extinct.
Even stuff which may negatively affect our ability to live and breed while causing us to release endorphins are countered by evolution. Narcotics especially, which have a tendency to induce an euphoric state while incurring a multitude of debilitating side-effects resulting in incapacitation. It may appear to be a harbinger of doom to humans as a collective organism, but in fact ideas and theories evolve to an extent where humans will go to whatever means necessary to stop other humans from being addicted whenever possible. In the end, evolution, non-physical evolution, triumphs over whatever is thrown in our way.
Will humans be able to escape this natural cycle? Are we ultimately governed by the rules of evolution? Is life as we know it an illusion, part of an incessant cycle which never ceases? Are we beasts ruled by instincts? Truly, is anything as it seems?
Incoherent ramblings.
