"My pessimism extends to the point of even suspecting the sincerity of the pessimists."

Haha =D. So for Term 2 I shall carry out Phase 2 of my experiment. Phase 1, as some might recall, included me listening to no lecture, copying no notes, and doing no tutorial. To such an extent that when the Math Tutor peeked at my notes, he started to doubt my presence in recent Math lectures. Such is the extent to which I have slacked away the first term in the name of this experiment.

Physics : Dunno. Shld be able to scrape at least a B or sth
Math : 3/30 LOLOLOLOLOL
Economics : 21/25 Screw careless mistakes
Literature : Dunno. Shld be able to scrape at least a B or sth
General Paper : 25/50 Lol crapped too much -_-. Overshot word limit by 2x. At least I know roughly what writing style and method to adopt now.
Project Work : Dunno.

And as we can see, the lack of attention has only sharply affected my Math grades, since I learnt what an asymptote was during the test. Which, obviously, heavily impedes my understanding of the questions.

Phase 2 shall maintain the lack of attention during lectures and tutorials mostly, but this time I shall actually complete the tutorials and copy the lecture notes from my friends. And I might actually do some of the homework. Let's wait for the results...

Haha yesterday was quite fun. Nan Hua Primary School had some festival of sort, which was actually a poorly disguised fund-raising session. One of my favourite poster read:

BALLOONS:
Cost : $2
2 for $3
3 for $4
4 for $5
5 for S10

EPIC WIN IT WAS. Oh ya another dam fun thing was the dunking shit. Basically there's this giant tub, large enough for maybe 6 people to be fully submerged in, and above it is a precariously balanced board, upon which a teacher sits. Connected to the board is a large canvas, at the center of which lies a target for one to aim at. The target is about the size of your average roll of masking tape, and one stands roughly 15 paces away, throwing up to 3 balls at the target. If any of the balls successfully connect with the target with sufficient force, the teacher sitting on the board falls into the water with a rather large splash.

For the average teacher the cost of the game is 5 bucks. But for the principal of Nan Hua Primary there were, to my memory, 10 separate ocassions of bidding, where some people bidded up to 200 dollars for a chance to dunk the principal. Our group of ex-6j/k people more or less pooled 20 dollars and won one of the bids. And I succesfully got the target on my second throw! WOOOHOOOO. But alot of people hit the target easily also la lol.

After that went to spam Yu Dong's house for Halo and pool, thn zao back to HCJC for talentime. Gratz to the winners!!!

And so ends yesterday. Today was just about, if not more hectic.

First my Ah Ma's birthday. Wanted to cake smash her but relatives didn't allow it. After all, its her 八十大寿.So end up eating with relatives for lunch at some dam ex restaurant lor.

After that for some reason we ended up on our way to the Singapore Flyer. So from Chinatown to City Hall, rather uneventful trip. But after we got off at City Hall...
Realised that today was the last day of the IT Fair at Suntec. And it was raining. And the Singapore Flyer was in the same general direction of Suntec City....

人山人海would hardly describe it. Neither would 水泄不通。It was, seriously, fucking crowded. From City Hall to New York New York took more than 10 minutes, and that was less than a quarter of the trip. But at the end...

The path splitted between Marina Square and Suntec City near the end or something. And I think there was someone blocking the path to Suntec City (I couldn't see), and he was shouting into a loudspeaker something about the path being blocked and that we should walk an alternative path (for those attending the IT fair, that is). And something interesting happened...

Some dam thick-skinned guy went something like "OI. OPEN THE PATH LAHH". And the crownd actually started cheering. And more or less went "OIIIIIII". Now, Hwa Chongians should find this familiar. Ain't this what happens when someone tries to cut the queue back in high school? It was amusing, though, to see a similar thing happen uncoordinated among hundreds, or even thousands of people. Spontaneous action. Crowd Psychology.

And after that chiong to CT outing. More or less some dinner, which quite a few people attended, thn went to IT Fair, with only a few people left. Haha bought a few stuff for my laptop...

Feeling dam guilty for whacking people's heads now -_-

Oh, by total randomness - Congratulations to our Econs Tutor for breaking the 100 mark in terms of how many times he repeated the term "Alrite?". As for the term "salient", he only managed to use it 16 times in one tutorial. I expect to see some improvement from him in the lessons to come.

"No matter hwo hard we try, we simply cannot be aware of all the deatils that bombard our sense. We constantly select which information is chosen for further processing. This is what we call attention: the process of selective looking, listening, smelling, tasting and feeling."

"... we select information for certain physical characteristics-such as color, a certain voice quality-and concentrate on those signals to try to recognize and understand them. But other, "ignored" signals get at least some processing, so that our attention can be shifted to focus on something particularly meaningful. We hae seen how the sensory registers interact with long-term memory to help us recognize and pay attention to the information that enters the waiting room of our sense..."

I have no idea why psychologists made it so complicated. The fact that people could remember things that happened to them in their sleep, which to my memory forms the basis of sleep-learning, whereby one learns something from a tape played on a loop which you listen to while you sleep; the fact that one could remember a song played on a car which he hears without listening to it; wouldn't all these be sufficient to assume that one's subconscious wouild register that which one did not consciously recognize?

And so I end.
