苦海无边,回头是岸。。。

新年这个时期生病真的很不方便。。。 今天跑去牛车水买东西,累了一整天,到最后连站着的力都没了。。。他妈的很讨厌!

Anyway I shall blog about myself for once.

Quite a few people who are acquaintanced with me will think that I'm shallow, superificial and rather irresponsible. For my part, I haven't done anything to change their opinion, and neither do I intend to. Although I will freely admit that I am fairly irresponsible and often perform actions with unintended consequences... *looks down memory lane and shudders*...

I love reading alot. I started reading Enid Blyton from about 3-4 years of age iirc and got hooked. On my birthdays all my relatives would buy me books to read, ditto for Christmas. When I was about 8 years old I started reading my mother's archive of Reader's Digest, or rather 读者文摘, since all of it dating from 1980s were in 繁体 and read from top to bottom, right to left. Since I usually started with the various joke sections, I was rather motivated to read them, even if I couldn't understand some of the words, a problem I overcame by reading words by meaning and not by pronunciation. This, however, has caused a problem for me now - while I have no problem understanding most difficult texts, when faced with a question where I have to write out said word I know the exact meaning of the word needed but have trouble picturing it... Oh, and around P4-P5 I started reading 天龙八部, a 武侠小说 even most people my age wouldnt read, considering my version was top to bottom, right to left, and EXTREMLY long.

Anyway when I read I usually get very involved in the storyline, so much so that I often feel discomfort reading about characters who experience biased treatment, and more often than not I feel rather emo after completing a story. For this reason the books that I bring out with me are usually action-related stories, to spare me my emo-side when I'm outside reading. Around when I entered secondary school I started reading graphic novels, most of which notably belonged to the DC franchise.

As for games, I started my gaming life with educational games on a really old computer that as far as I can remember, costed over 2000 dollars and had 1.5 gb of harddrive space. However, it was a great computer for that time (about 14 years back) and I loved it. However, with regard to games, most of my gaming time was spent on my old Playstation (which you can assume from second blogpost), which died awhile after I entered Nan Hua Primary School.

My first online computer game was Neopets (wowowowweee big surprise), during the days where internet was pay-by-online-period, and I only got to play a teeny bit now and then. My next real computer game was actually MapleStory, back in Sec 1, which I got really hooked on (enough to spend hundreds on it and regret it now)... along with several other online games like PangyaSEA (in which I actually attained top 50 in). I started DoTA in June of my Sec 3 life, and contrary to popular belief I rarely spend more than 2 hours on it a day, and almost never play it alone if none of my friends are online.

Despite playing several online games, my favourite part of a game is always the storyline, followed by gameplay and finally art. For this reason I loved alot of old RPGs; Final Fantasy 7 being a classic example, although it was a game which storyline I only got to understand a good 7 or so years after playing it the first time. In Secondary 4 I was introduced to Visual Novels, a genre of gaming where the focus is on the plot, and contrary to popular belief, NOT always eroge. Stuff like Phoenix Wright is and will always be my favourite amongst my various games.

I find that gameplay is not much a factor of games unless you have someone to show it off to, because no matter what the game, if its a RPG sooner or later even the most retarded gamer would complete it. For that reason what I usually seek in RPGs are storylines and not gameplay. Of course, there are a few exceptions, like the games I play just for the pure challenge - Step Mania, Super Mario Bros, I wanna be the Guy to name a few. Online games usually consist of pure gameplay and little or no storyline, which I usually play only to be with friends. Of course, some simulation games have really good gameplay, first person shooters which employ latest physic engines and stunning graphics never fail to amaze me. Furthermore with a 120 hz monitor, some software, a nvidia graphic card and specialized glasses you can even play most games in 3D from the comfort of your home. Must remember to download Mirror's Edge sooner or later.

Sports were a part of my life from young. My father would constantly bring me out with him after I just learned to walk, and I still remember him bringing me to ACJC to learn how to ride my bicycle ON THEIR TRACK, and being chased out by the teachers there after a few weeks. Having a dad who played table-tennis, basketball, soccer, badminton, and volley-ball rather helped too, and I eventually became decent in most of said sports. Table-tennis is still one of my favourites, because it is one of the game which tests your reflexes most - and cool curves and fast smashes (and receiving them too) are always what I like.

I love a challenge more than anything, be it in games or sport, both of which I easily get addicted to, and will not get off until I attain a certain level of proficiency. However I wish the same could be said for my studies. My normal memory is about 10 seconds for ordinary life; I sometimes forget where I'm supposed to be going while on a MRT, once I even nearly walked to Dover from my house by mistake (when my intended target was Clementi) because I was pondering on certain matters. Losing many items and such doesn't help either.

Every now and then, one of the subject in school arouses my interest, and I usually end up attaining a rather high level of proficiency in it. Example: Math. My score often fluctuates between 95% and 40% depending on how much I like the topic that term. Also, being unable to get along well with most teachers, because frankly I dislike authority and how people go around [ab]using it, I only fare well in subjects with teachers I like (or am neutral to), seeing as I dont really care much if I dont like the teacher (which takes a higher priority over me not liking the subject). In the years gone by perhaps Kevin Cheng is my favourite teacher, even though he's weird sometimes. (okay... more than weird).

Bleh cant think of much to type now.
